“Let us stir one another up to love and good works.” —Hebrews 10.24
The FreeStore Austin has a new home, new hours, and more space.
During the first three years of its life, FreeStore Austin reached over 1,000 persons per month through direct services, maintained a weekly Bible study with as many as 35 persons per week, and gave birth to a diverse Wednesday worship that led to several baptisms, professions of faith, and active members for Simpson United Methodist Church. In 2016 alone, the FreeStore welcomed more than 10,000 individual shoppers, gave away $2.4 million in clothing, logged more than 7,000 volunteer hours. Just imagine what we will do in 2017 with three times the shopping space.
- FreeStore Austin is newly located in Memorial United Methodist Church’s gym (6100 Berkman Dr, 78723)
- Donation drop off is every Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, from 11:00AM-1:00PM
- Shopping hours are Wednesday, from 11:00AM –1:00PM
FreeStore Austin has also provided a wonderful hub for United Methodists to meet and build community across the community as individuals, youth groups and congregations. Many of you joined us and have volunteered, taken donations, given financial support and offered prayers.
When Rachel and I co-founded the FreeStore’s parent organization, Common Good Community Development, we had many hopes and dreams. “Outgrowing our space” wasn’t exactly one of them, but that is exactly what happened. Last September we had to close our doors, find new partners and take next steps into our future with hope.
Last week those steps led right into Memorial United Methodist, where the FreeStore has been welcomed and where the next phase of our outreach and community-building will unfold. Join the adventure as we welcome God’s gift of change.
See you at the FreeStore,
