We are pleased to share Bishop Robert Schnase’s intention to appoint Rev. Daesub Han to be an Associate Pastor at Tarrytown United Methodist Church starting in July.
He is currently serving at Faith United Church in Woodsboro, within the Coastal Bend District, and has been a member of the Rio Texas Annual Conference as an Elder in full connection.
Pastor Daesub was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. When he was ten years old, he visited Chongkyo Methodist Church, and it eventually became his mother church. (Chongkyo Methodist Church was established in the year 1900 on Easter Day by Josephine P. Campbell, an American Methodist Missionary who was born in Texas and affiliated with the Women’s Board of Foreign Missions.) He was actively involved in church activities during his childhood, as a teenager, and while in his twenties. He is very proud of his mother church where his Sunday school teachers and friends are still currently attending as active and faithful servants.
Pastor Daesub began in ministry at Sunlin Methodist Church & Meal All Methodist Church in South Korea as a Youth Director. While studying at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., he served as the Student Pastor at First Korean United Methodist Church of Washington in the Virginia Annual Conference. He was then led by the Lord to serve as the Senior Pastor at First Korean United Methodist Church of San Antonio and eventually at Faith United Church within the Rio Texas Annual Conference.
Pastor Daesub holds an Associate of Computer Science degree in Computer Information Systems from H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College in Montgomery, Alabama, a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea, and a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.
Pastor Daesub has held several leadership positions in the Rio Texas Annual Conference including positions in the District Metro Mission Board, the Conference Board of Global Ministries, the District Justice For Our Neighbors, the District Council on Older Adult Ministries, the District Ministry Team, and is currently serving as a member of the Committee on Episcopacy.
In his ministry, Pastor Daesub is most passionate about “serving God by serving others.” There are many people out there who have pain and hurt in their lives, and he is genuinely concerned about helping people overcome their pain by sharing God’s word of encouragement, hope, and love. He has great compassion for the broken hearted and for wounded souls. He wants to be used by God to help and show those that are hurting that God is both the answer and the way.
God has blessed Pastor Daesub and his wife, Sanghee, with two children: Noorie and Dan, daughter and son, respectively. Sanghee was born in a small town in South Korea and raised in Seoul. She graduated from Ewha Womans University (founded in 1886 by the American Methodist Episcopal Church) with a Bachelor of Science in Education with Chemistry. She is currently a choir director and a pianist at Faith United Church. Noorie graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown in 2017 and is a 5th grade elementary school teacher in Waco. Dan recently graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas this year and will work at Oracle Corporation at their Austin campus.
Pastor Lance is excited about Daesub’s appointment to TUMC. He believes that Daesub is uniquely gifted to not only deepen our practice of prayer and strengthen our dependence upon God, but to help us minister with those in our mission field to an even greater degree. Lance is touched by Pastor Daesub’s faith and believes that we will grow even closer to Christ through Pastor Daesub’s leadership. He believes Daesub is a perfect addition to our staff and pastoral team.
Pastor Daesub is excited to work together for the kingdom of God with the gifted, lovely people God has placed at TUMC. He is so humbled and excited about serving God’s people here at TUMC and its wonderful community.
