When we grow in our practice of generosity, God’s kingdom gains ground in the lives of our neighbors far and near.
Rock climbing can be exhilarating! Seasoned climbers will tell you that few experiences provide the same level of satisfaction as reaching their destination at the top of the rock. It is the satisfaction of overcoming a challenge so physically and mentally demanding that many people never attempt it. The secret to climbing is shifting your focus from reaching the top to finding the next handhold within your reach that will move you further up the rock. You will start gaining ground, little by little, until you’re standing at the top with an entire mountain under your feet.
During the four weeks of TUMC’s 2019 Stewardship Campaign, we are studying God’s design for generosity and the way it changes the world, the challenge Jesus issues us to shape our whole lives in pursuit of God’s kingdom, how investing in God’s kingdom now has immediate and future impact, and that moving beyond self-imposed limits advances the harvest.
A stewardship campaign is not about funding the church budget—it is an opportunity for every one of us to move deeper into the joy and transformation that God gives to those pursuing a generous life. It also takes faith to gain ground in the practice of generosity—faith that God will provide for us as we provide for others, faith that our lives have greater purpose than we had previously known, and faith that our sacrificial giving has eternal benefits that we can begin to experience as the kingdom becomes tangible in the lives of others through us.
