In Central America, Dia de los Reyes or Day of the Kings celebrates when the Three Wise Men, following the star to Bethlehem, arrived bearing their treasured gifts for the infant Jesus.
On January 13, we’re throwing a Dia de los Reyes Fiesta to celebrate 25 years of mission and ministry in the Agalta Valley of Honduras.
Celebrate the wise ones from this faith community and from the many villages in Honduras who had an epiphany and have shared their precious gifts of time and talent in ways that have changed all of us for good over the last quarter century.
And…because successful global mission partnerships often lead us, like the Magi, home by another road, we are honoring the work of our many Honduras Mission teams with a church-wide gift to Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON), our local United Methodist legal clinic, which represents asylum seekers at low or no cost.
Our Dia de los Reyes Fiesta celebrates the gifts of the kings to the infact Jesus. Our gifts to JFON honor the work done by many to make a region of Honduras safe and prosperous, while remembering that Christ, the King of our hearts, was once a vulnerable child seeking refuge in a far off place.
Gifts can be made in the offering plate on Sundays in January; please designate “JFON” in the memo line. They can also be made online at www.tumc.gives (choose “JFON” in the dropdown menu.)
