“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Creator in heaven.”
—Jesus (Matthew 5:12–16)
At TUMC you are part of a family that has chosen to travel the road of life with one another, worshipping and serving a God that never stops pulling us toward that next step. As each of us continue along on our faith journey, we follow those who are already ahead of us, and we serve as beacons of light guiding those who will one day look ahead to us.
Graduating Seniors, you’ve more-or-less been on the same road with the same traveling companions for most of your lives, but that’s about to change for many of you. Soon, you’ll find yourself coming across more and more forks in the road, and one day you might not know which road you’re supposed to take. This is more than deciding which college you want to go to or if college is even the right choice for you. What kind of person do you want to become? What do you want to be known for?
It’s important to be aware of where your road is headed. Jesus wants us to all become beacons of light, revealing God’s boundless love with the world around us. How does God inspire you? What makes you burn the brightest? And what road will get you there?
I hope everyone is able to join us this Sunday as we celebrate our graduating Seniors and their numerous accomplishments. We will pray for them, share memories, and send them off on the next adventure God has called them to embark on.
Peace be with you on your journey,
