Community Night Kickoff is Sunday, July 21
Your name is important. All names are important. It’s time to DIG in scripture and discover the names of God! Join our Crew as we uncover new ways of knowing God together. This year’s VBS is Monday – Thursday mornings, July 22 – 25, from 9:00AM – Noon. (NO Friday.) We’ll kick off the fun with a Community Night picnic on Sunday, July 21. Open to children who turn four by September 1, 2019 to those who have completed fifth grade.
What to wear:
lease send your child in closed toe shoes and comfortable play clothes matching the color of the day. All children will receive a TUMC t-shirt to wear on Thursday. As a reminder- VBS runs Sunday night through Thursday.
Our colors of the day are:
- Sunday night- come as you are
- Monday- orange
- Tuesday- red
- Wednesday- green
- Thursday- blue (VBS Tshirt)
Kids will be divided into 3 age groups:
Pre-School (age 4 by 9/1/19 to incoming kindergarteners)
Elementary (completed Kinder to Second Grade), and
Upper Elementary (completed Third to Fifth Grade).
The Pre-School and Elementary kids will experience VBS in groups or “crews” of 10 led by 2 volunteer leaders. These crews will move through activity stations including Arts and Crafts, Skits, Music & Mission, and Recreation. The Upper Elementary crews will participate in most of the rotations, but will also have their own “big kid” activities and projects.
Monday Morning, July 22nd at 8:45AM:
On the first morning of VBS, please report to the check-in desk outside on the south side of Fellowship Hall at 8:45AM, unless you are a volunteer (volunteers arrive earlier!). At check-in, you will receive your child’s crew information. After checking in, all campers will meet in Fellowship Hall. Pick up is at 12:00PM in Fellowship Hall. Your child will be with his/her crew in the Fellowship Hall and must be signed out by a parent or caregiver. For safety, we will not offer a car line.
Tuesday – Thursday:
For the rest of the week, all children will report to the Fellowship Hall at 9:00AM. Please check in directly with your child’s crew leaders. Every child must be signed in and out each day.
Do not leave/pick up your child without their crew leader’s knowledge. Pick up is at 12:00PM in Fellowship Hall every day.
As mentioned, adult and teen “crew leaders” will be helping children travel from station to station and watching the perimeters of the playground and courtyard. We also have a nurse on site for any minor scrapes or bumps. To make sure everyone has a great experience, we suggest all parents visit with their children before VBS about the importance of staying with their crew, following rules, and using appropriate behavior.
How You Can Help:
VBS is Helping Others. A large part of our focus at VBS is how we love others in the world as God has loved us. We have two mission opportunities this year as a way to encourage kids to show love.
Our local effort will be to collect 8 Count LARGE Crayola washable markers for Sims Elementary. Sims is located in East Austin has an enrollment of 266 students, yet 94% of the students are from economically disadvantaged homes. New school supplies are very much needed and appreciated by the families at Sims.
We will also be collecting money to support the ZOE Project—TUMC’s international mission that empowers orphans in Africa how to be self-sufficient leaders in their community.
Other donations: We need all kinds of volunteers to make VBS a success each year. Snacks, soft drinks, water and baked goods are always appreciated and you may drop them off throughout the week in our hospitality room (Room 222.) Because of increased allergic sensitivities, please refrain from bringing any items containing nuts of any kind.
During the week of VBS, if you have a question, need to make changes to your child’s arrival and departure plan, report absences or check the lost and found, please visit the Help Desk located inside Fellowship Hall.
Thank you for joining us at “DIG: Discovering the Names of God” this summer! We are excited to share this week with your family, and look forward to all God will do in the lives of each child, youth, volunteer, and family that is participating. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us any time.
