July 10 – 14, 2017
We hope you are excited as we are for what I’m sure will be your child’s favorite week of summer—Vacation Bible School! This year for VBS, we are training for God’s race! Kids and adults will take off alongside the apostle Paul as we learn how he taught others to see like Jesus, be like Jesus, serve like Jesus, pray like Jesus, and think like Jesus. We will learn to be faithful servants who join together to “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us heavenward” (Phil. 3:14). VBS 2017 will draw both kids and adults closer to Christ. We look forward to seeing you on the starting line!
Unfortunately, registration for VBS is now closed.

Serving Our Young Neighbors
One of the ways Jesus showed others how much he loved them was by helping them, and that’s why our main focus at VBS is serving our neighbors near and far. This year we’re asking all the parents and children attending VBS to join us in serving children in need here in Austin and on the other side of the world!
- We’re asking each VBS family to bring 8 Count LARGE washable markers for the students of Sims Elementary, which is located in east Austin. Over 90% of the students enrolled at Sims Elementary come from economically disadvantaged homes. New school supplies are so needed and appreciated by the families at Sims.
- Throughout the week, you’ll have an opportunity to help support one of TUMC’s primary partners in mission. ZOE is a unique three-year program, developed in Africa that empowers orphans and vulnerable children around the world to overcome extreme poverty, become fully self-reliant, and learn of God’s love for them. For more information, please visit www.zoehelps.org.
What to Wear
Please send your child in closed-toe shoes and comfortable play clothes matching the color of the day. All children will receive a TUMC t-shirt to wear on Friday. Our colors of the day are:
Monday – Blue
Tuesday – Yellow
Wednesday – Green
Thursday – Orange
Friday – Red TUMC T-shirt
Kids will be divided into 3 age groups: Pre-School (age 4 by September 1 and incoming kindergartners), elementary (completed Kinder – Second Grade), and upper elementary (completed third – fifth Grade). The preschool and elementary kids will experience VBS in teams of ten led by two volunteer leaders. These teams will move through activity stations including marketplace, drama, music & mission, and games. The upper elementary teams will participate in most of the rotations, but will also have their own “big kid” activities and projects.
Drop-off and Pick-up
Monday at 8:45AM:
On the first morning of VBS, please report to the check-in desk outside on the south side of Fellowship Hall at 8:45AM, unless you are a volunteer. Volunteers arrive earlier. At check-in, you will receive your child’s team information. After checking in, the preschool children will be directed to the Sanctuary. This will only be on Monday. Elementary and upper elementary will meet in Fellowship Hall on Monday. Pick up is at 12:00PM in Fellowship Hall. Your child will be with his/her team in Fellowship Hall and must be signed out by a parent or caregiver. For safety, we will not offer a car line.
Tuesday–Friday at 9:00AM:
Tuesday through Friday, all children will report to Fellowship Hall at 9:00AM. Please check in directly with your child’s team leaders. Every child must be signed in and out each day. Do not leave/pick up your child without their team leader’s knowledge. Pick up is at 12:00PM in Fellowship Hall, and we will not offer a car line.
As mentioned, adult and teen “team leaders” will be helping children travel from station to station and watching the perimeters of the playground and courtyard. We also have a nurse on site for any minor scrapes or bumps. To make sure everyone has a great experience, we suggest all parents visit with their children before VBS about the importance of staying with their league, following rules, and using appropriate behavior.
During the week of VBS, if you have a question, need to make changes to your child’s arrival and departure plan, report absences or check the lost and found, please visit the Help Desk located inside Fellowship Hall.
Thank you for racing toward the goal with us this summer! God has great plans for us, and we are excited to share this week with your family.
